Concrete and masonry professionals return to Las Vegas

December 12, 2019  By Rock to Road

More than 60,000 attendees will be descending upon the Las Vegas Convention Center this February to check out approximately 1,500 exhibiting companies over 700,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space to learn about the latest technologies for the concrete and masonry industries.

The world’s largest annual event for the concrete and masonry industries, originally started up in Houston, Texas in 1975, draws a wide variety of industry professionals including commercial contractors; concrete contractors; concrete pumpers; construction managers; dealers and distributors; decorative concrete contractors; designers and specifiers; general contractors; architects; engineers; ready mix producers; rental equipment centers; repair contractors; residential contractors; specialty concrete contractors; and many others.

To learn more about some of the latest products that will be on display, Rock to Road reached out to some of the exhibitors for the upcoming show. Here’s a small sample of what you’ll see on display at WOC 2020.

Wirtgen America
The new SP 124i slipform paver from Wirtgen America will be displayed at World of Concrete 2020. With the addition of two new slipform paver models – the the SP 124i/SP 124 – Wirtgen is equipping its slipform pavers in the 12-m class with the state-of-the-art technologies from the SP 60 and SP 90 series, which have already proven successful on the market. For example, the SP 124i/SP 124 have four steerable and slewing crawler units. Inset slipform pavers are the ideal choice for the cost-effective paving of large-scale concrete pavements, such as highly durable highways or aircraft runways. Wirtgen offers 14 machine models in various performance classes for this paving method alone. Due to their modular design, the machines can be customized to meet nearly any customer’s specific requirements. The two new pavers in the 12-m class are the perfect smaller cousins of the larger Wirtgen slipform pavers, which are capable of paving concrete up to a maximum working width of 16m.

The SP 124i’s 321 kW/430 hp Cummins engine meets the Euro 5/US Tier 4f emissions standards. The SP 124 power plant produces 272 kW/365 hp, and meets the Euro 3a/US Tier 3 emissions standards. Either way, the new Wirtgen slipform pavers have sufficient power for paving concrete pavements from 4.50 m to 12 m wide and up to 450 mm thick.

The SP 124i/SP 124 is the first slipform paver from Wirtgen with a maximum working width of 12 m to be equipped with four steerable and slewing crawler units, which are optionally available with a new slew drive steering system and a steering angle of up to 260 degrees.

In addition, the four crawler units can be switched to rotation mode at the push of a button. As a result, the SP 124i/SP 124 can turn almost on the spot and directly produce the next lane in the opposite direction without wasting any time on repositioning. During transport, the swing legs are swung in.

A tried and tested 3D interface offers reliable compatibility with 3D control systems from leading suppliers, making it future-proof. In addition, the efficient WITOS FleetView telematics system offers fleet management, position and condition monitoring, as well as maintenance and diagnostic processes.

CASE CE
CASE Construction Equipment recently introduced the all-new TV450 compact track loader (CTL), a new 10,610-pound vertical-lift machine with a rated operating capacity of 4,500 pounds at 50 percent tipping load. The newest and largest CASE CTL ever built features an industry leading 9,188 pounds of breakout force, and optional high-flow (3,450 psi at 39.5 gpm) and enhanced high-flow (4,000 psi at 35 gpm) hydraulics for high-power attachments such as mulching heads, stump grinders and cold planers.

The CASE TV450 is available in either standard mechanical (H Pattern) controls, or optional electro-hydraulic controls (H and ISO pattern interchangeability), as well as optional mechanical hand and foot controls. CASE electro-hydraulic controls — EZ-EH — provide adjustable speed and control sensitivity settings that can adjust to meet the needs of each application and attachment, and operators are able to switch between H and ISO patterns via a simple rocker switch. A large, rounded rear window delivers excellent rear visibility — and an all-new standard in-cab rearview mirror further improves operational awareness.

JOHN DEERE
The John Deere 317G compact track loader will be exhibited at WOC 2020. The 317G has a rated operating capacity of 965 kg (2,125 lb.) and an operating weight of 3,721 kg (8,195 lb.). With 48.5 kW (65 hp) gross horsepower and 45.6 kW (61 hp) net horsepower, the 317G maximizes operator productivity. Key features of the 317G include, boom auxiliary hydraulic line routing, four tie-down points, removable cab window, improved cab pressurization to keep dirt and debris out, and newly redesigned grips.

Doosan
The Doosan DX42-5 is a conventional tail swing mini excavator in the 4- to 5-ton class, featuring a strong bucket breakout force and impressive dig depth and reach. Its relatively narrow width provides operators greater ability to navigate through doorways, gates and other obstacles. The machine comes standard with an enclosed cab with heat and air conditioning and offers an optional open canopy configuration. Both configurations allow for excellent all-around visibility, especially to the excavator’s attachment. A standard suspension seat provides all-day operator comfort, while a strategically positioned deluxe instrument panel provides operators with valuable machine information. A standard keyless start system helps to reduce unauthorized machine use and theft on jobsites. In addition, DX42-5 owners can choose a standard arm or a long-arm option. The long-arm option gives operators more dig depth and reach and reduces the amount of machine repositioning for enhanced productivity.

Additional features include a 42.7-hp Tier 4-compliant diesel engine; an operating weight of 9,246 lb.; bucket breakout force: 9,183 lbf; a maximum dig depth (with standard arm) of 10 ft. 6 in.; a width of 69 in.; and a tail swing overhang of 17 in.
